Staples is rolling out a significant retail strategy by integrating Party City shop-in-shops into 700-plus of its stores across 34 states, timed to capture the graduation season spending surge. The partnership gives customers access to party supplies, balloons, gift bags, and personalized print services—including invitations, banners, and posters—all in one location. Party City products will also be available on Staples.com, expanding the digital reach of both retailers.

The collaboration represents a strategic pivot for both struggling retailers. According to Fast Company, Staples has downsized significantly, operating fewer than 1,000 U.S. locations as it shifts focus toward e-commerce and B2B services amid declining foot traffic and reduced demand for traditional office supplies. Party City's situation proved more dire: the company filed for bankruptcy twice—in January 2023 and again in December 2024—ultimately announcing plans to close all standalone stores.

For Charlotte-area business owners and event planners, the partnership offers convenient access to comprehensive event solutions. Local Staples locations can now serve as one-stop shops for corporate events, grand openings, and celebrations, combining helium balloon services with Staples' established print and marketing capabilities. The expansion is scheduled to reach additional stores by year-end 2026.

Interestingly, part of Staples' recent momentum stems from grassroots brand advocacy. Kaeden Rowland, a Staples print specialist known as the "Staples Baddie," has amassed nearly 600,000 TikTok followers by showcasing the retailer's lesser-known products and services. Staples has embraced the employee's viral success, incorporating her into official marketing partnerships—a modern approach to driving retail traffic that Charlotte businesses are increasingly watching.
